Full-Day Trip Marrakech to Essaouira Itinerary

A drive through the plains of Al Haouz will start your day trip to Essaouira from Marrakech. Stop in the middle of your journey at Chishawa village for a cup of coffee before continuing. As you approach Essaouira, you will pass through an argan tree forest, where you will see many goats climbing the trees. Before continuing to Essaouira, stop for a photo. You’ll visit a local women’s cooperative to understand how argan oil (also known as liquid gold or Moroccan oil) is harvested and how some beautiful cosmetics are locally made using rich argan oil. We will move to Essaouira from here. Upon arrival, you will have free time to explore the beautiful city. Exploring Essaouira on your own is simple, based on personal experience: the locals are very nice, the city is relatively small (compared to other old Moroccan cities), and the streets are well kept. The city tour does not require the use of a guide. Unlike every maze-like city in Morocco, the city’s streets are oriented opposite each other, making it easy to explore on your own. If you insist on having a guide, your driver will help you findit. The harbor, with its fishing port and medieval Portuguese defences, is the first stop.The medieval military cannons that were positioned in order and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean can still be seen.

Keep going to the Medina (the old city), which has a well-preserved 18th-century fortress, and the most famous of all is La Scala, which was built to protect the city from foreign naval invasions. Continue to Bab El Louj (one of the main gates of Essaouira), then to the Mellah (the old Jewish district).

Various art galleries, souvenir shops, and Thuya wood craft businesses are lined up along the path. Choose a fantastic seafood lunch at one of the local cafes before heading to Kasbah, which was formerly a military fortress. If you like the beach, take a stroll along Mogador’s sandy beach and watch the locals play beach ball. If you’re feeling courageous, join a game for a few minutes. Essaouira residents are extremely friendly!! If not, you can sunbathe while watching kitesurfing or windsurfing amateurs.

Drive back to Marrakech late in the afternoon, and your full-day tour of Essaouira will conclude with a drop-off at your hotel or the closest car-accessible location to your riad.
