5 Days Tour from Fes Itinerary

Day 1: Fes | Meknes | Ifrane | Azrou | Midelt | 261 km

Start out in the direction of Meknes, the least obvious of the imperial cities; however, the city’s architecture, including its palaces, enormous gardens, massive barns, and grand scuderies that are enclosed within orange-colored walls, undermines its unity to the point where its inclusion on the UNESCO list of sites of worldwide cultural heritage is justified.

Continue our best 5-day tour from Fes via the impressive Medio Atlante, arriving in Ifrane before heading toward Azrou, where you will see the monkeys in the cedar fores. Arrive in Midelt after traveling across constantly changing landscapes. Overnight in a hotel.

DAY 2: Midelt | Ziz Valley | Erfoud | Merzouga | Erg Chebbi Dunes | 260 km

Traveling south toward the desert after breakfast, we passed through the magnificent Valley Ziz, which is home to typical Berber villages and spectacular palm-fringed oases. From there, one can begin to explore the magnificent kasbahs of the pre-Saharan region. After about an hour of travel, we will arrive in Erfoud, a town famous for hosting the Dates Festival and attracting lots of tourists due to the presence of rocky outcrops containing marine fossils.

After passing across the desert and through a more desolate landscape, one arrives in Merzouga, a little town at the foot of the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes. Arriving at Merzouga, we’ll turn off the 4×4 and head out on dromedaries for a leisurely stroll of about an hour and a half into the center of the dunes. Free time to enjoy the magnificent sight that only the desert can bestow: dinner, musical entertainment, and tent sleeping.

Day 3: Exploring the Merzouga Desert (40 km)

Wake up at dawn to walk to the highest dune, take countless photographs of the sunrise, and enjoy the relaxing landscape that nature offers. This day will be entirely dedicated to the discovery of the Eastern Sahara by 4×4. We will be able to cross some Berber villages scattered along the way and observe the black desert (Hamada), an immense stony platform with its volcanic stones.

Subsequently, you will visit a family of nomads who live in the fortified village of Merzouga, with whom you will sip tea, and you will be able to understand their lifestyle, their customs and traditions, and how it is possible to live as a nomad in the Sahara, even today. Continuing, we arrive at the village of Khamlia, inhabited by the descendants of ancient black slaves, today famous musicians of Gwana, who will delight us with their music and their traditional dances. Dinner and overnight at the hotel

Day 4: Merzouga | Rissani | Todra Gorges | Dades Valley | Km 258

Departed towards Rissani, an ancient caravan route with sub-Saharan Africa, a town of great historical importance and a religious center, a witness of the Alaouite dynasty. We stop to visit the lively local market, the largest in southern Morocco, and one of the most authentic and traditional souks. We will visit the mosque of Moulay Ali Sherif, founder of the Alaouite dynasty.

Continue in the direction of Tinerhir, and for many kilometers we will admire mountain ranges of modest dimensions sculpted by the wind. We will cross villages rich in evidence of the Berber tradition, and we will admire the deep Todra Gorges, one of the most beautiful points of the High Atlas, where we will stop to observe the gorges in detail. We continue in the direction of the Dades Valley. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Boumalne Dades

Day 5: Dades Valley | Dades Gorges | Valley of Roses | Skoura | Kasbah Amridil | Kasbah Taourirt | Ouarzazate | Marrakesh (330 KM)

After breakfast, depart from Boumalne Dades along “the road of a thousand kasbahs” and Kalaat M’Gouna, characterized by boundless Damask rose plantations and known for the festival during the rose harvest that takes place every year in May. Continuing the journey, we will make a stop to admire the palm groves of Skoura.

Arrival in Ouarzazate, the African Hollywood, which very soon seduced the world of cinema with its beautiful landscapes, exceptional light, and ideal climatic conditions In this context, films such as “Sahara” with Penélope Cruz, “The Jewel of the Nile,” and “The Gladiator” were shot. Ouarzazate owes its importance not only to its heritage and nature but also to the presence of three film studios, including the Atlas Studios, which you will be able to visit, where numerous films set in the desert were shot, including “Lawrence of Arabia,” “Tea in the Desert,” and “Kundun” by Martin Scorsese.

We will admire, just outside the city, the Kasbah Taourirt, with its huge crenellated towers. Kasbah has such pride that it has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a fine example of southern Moroccan architecture. After the visit, we continue in the direction of Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas mountains and the Tizi nTichka pass (2260 meters), arriving in Marrakech, the final destination of our journey, in the afternoon or evening. Transfer to Riad.
